Set and Setting: How to Prepare for Your Session

A quiet room prepared for an at-home ketamine session with a trusted sitter nearby

A quiet room, a cozy blanket, a trusted friend nearby: that is really all it takes.

A quiet room, a cozy blanket, a trusted friend sitting nearby, and an open evening. That is really all it takes to prepare for an at-home session.

When it comes to ketamine, two simple words decide most of your experience: set and setting.

Set is your mindset—the thoughts and expectations you bring into the room.

Setting is your environment—the room, the light, the playlist, and the person with you.

Getting both right creates the space for real progress. At Online Ketamine Clinic, preparation is built right into your care plan so you know exactly what to do before your troche dissolves.

Why Home Beats a Medical Office

If you have ever been to an in-person clinic, you know the routine: driving through traffic, waiting under harsh lights, and figuring out how to get home afterward.

At home, you stay comfortable. You rest on your own couch or bed, wear your softest clothes, play your own music, and have someone you know and trust right there with you. That comfort lets your body relax so the medicine can do its job.

How to Prepare Your Mindset (Set)

Pick an intention, not a demand. Instead of telling yourself “I must fix this today,” try “I want to understand why I have been feeling so anxious.” An open mind works with the medicine.

Clear your day. Do not schedule a session before a hard meeting or a stressful deadline. Give yourself the session and the hours after it.

Turn off the news. Skip social media and headlines on the morning of your session to keep your mind calm.

Expect a few jitters. Feeling nervous is completely normal. Accepting the nervousness and moving forward anyway leads to the best experiences.

How to Prepare Your Room (Setting)

Find your spot. Pick a quiet space where you will not be disturbed for two hours—your bed, a couch, or a cozy corner with pillows.

Gather your supplies. Grab a light blanket, a glass of water, an eye mask, and a small basin nearby in case you feel a bit nauseous.

Set up your audio. Activate the playlist we provide with your program, using headphones. Start it before taking your troche so you do not have to mess with your phone later.

Arrange your sitter. Every program includes a Sitter Agreement. Choose a calm, trusted adult who stays in the room with you. They do not need to talk much—their job is simply to sit quietly and make sure you feel safe.

Protect your quiet. Put your phone on silent, close the door, cancel deliveries, and ask your household not to interrupt you for two hours.

During Your Session

Put on your eye mask, lie back, and let the music carry you. You do not need to force anything to happen—the medicine works while you rest, and your sitter keeps the room safe.

(Note: Do not drive or make major decisions for the rest of the day after your session.)

After Your Session: Integration

The days after a session are when your brain processes the insights you had.

Write down what came up, even if it is just a few words or fragments. Complete your Experience Tracker and bring your notes to your integration call with our care team. That follow-up care is how temporary relief turns into lasting change.
